
Moving to Maryland from the New Jersey/New York City area in 1983, Barney Walsh and
his family made their home in West Laurel, MD. Professionally, Barney’s “claim to fame” is
the Laurel business (Morgan & Walsh Investments and Insurance) at 341 Main Street in historic Laurel.
Mr. Walsh began his career in the retirement benefit’s field at Metropolitan Life in New York City.
Later, he was asked to serve as manager and director of the group annuity department at
ULLICO, Inc. (the "Union Labor Life Insurance Company," which relocated from NYC to Washington, DC in 1983),
overseeing $1.67 billion in pension/annuity assets.
After studying for, and successfully completing, ten professional examinations Mr. Walsh was awarded the Certified Employee Benefit
Specialist* designation in 1987. In 1990 he accepted an appointment as Trust Officer and Assistant
Vice President at Citizens Bank of Maryland. There, he was Chairman of the Trust Acceptance Committee,
served on the Investment Management Committee and was in charge of Employee Benefit Plans'
Compliance . He assisted with the establishment of George Mason Bank’s Trust Department in April of 1997,
before George Mason Bank was merged into United Bank.
A co-founder and first Treasurer of the Capital
Chapter (Washington, D.C.) of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists, Mr. Walsh
served several years as an adjunct professor at George Washington University. There, and at Anne Arundel Community College,
he instructed professionals who aspired to attain the CEBS professional designation.
He is a Trustee - Board of Trustees of the City of Laurel Retirement Plans and a Member of
the St. Mary of the Mills Church Finance Committee.
He served three (3) years as President [2007-2010] and six (6) years as a Director of the Laurel Board of Trade.
Other community activities have included member of the Patuxent Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Laurel Lions Club. In 2012 he has been asked to serve on the board of the Howard County Chapter of SHRM.
In addition to his business Mr. Walsh serves as Pension Consultant for TCA
TrustCorp America and Registered Representative with Finance500, Inc.
In order to assist the needs of his clients, he has current working alliances with Third Party Administrators and independent
insurance brokerage firms.
Mr. Walsh earned his B. A. from Seton Hall University,
completed graduate studies at Drew University School of Theology and studied
Theology and Philosophy as Brother George at St. Mary's Abbey before
leaving the monastic life.
Married in 1976, he and his wife Peggy are proud grandparents and parents of two grown children who attended Laurel local schools.
